Ms. Lowery, the student teacher in the art room, is teaching primary students about the art of Vasys Kandinsky. First they read the book The Noisy Paint Box by Rosestock and Grandpre to learn about Kandinsky and his abstract art.
Students learned that Kandinsky heard sounds when he painted with color. Students created concentric circles of different colors, inspired by sounds that Ms. Lowery played for them. They listened to sounds such as the laugh of a baby, a train horn, and falling rain to determine which color to use for their circles. Their work was assembled togethet to make a class artwork.
