Second graders had a great time preparing printed papers to use in our upcoming insect collages. Each student made three different printed papers using styrofoam cups, cardboard tubes, and bubble wrap to make bright colored patterns.
First graders in room 119 were read the book Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. After a discussion about what parts of the book were fictional and which parts could exist in real life, students were shown a series of photos of yarn bomb projects. Please see a few pictured below. Students were very surprised to find some parts of the book they thought were imaginary could actually exist in real life! Yarn bombing is a form if street art in which fiber artists knit or crochet sleeves or sweaters for everyday items in the world around us. Yarn bomb projects are temporary and are easily removed. Students made their own miniature yarn bombs by wrapping cardboard pieces using either warm or cool colors. They then assembled and arranged their pieces to make an artwork. (I did the hot gluing.) They loved this project! |
