First graders have started amazing pumpkin paintings! We first spent some time examining the parts, shape, and lines we found on a real pumpkin. Students did their best to draw huge pumpkins based on our observations. We also read the book Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbel to gain an understanding of the life cycle of a pumpkin and help understand the parts we were drawing. Students then reviewed how to make the color orange. Most everyone remembered from kindergarten how to mix yellow and red by using the color wheel! (Proud art teacher moment.) Check out some of their paintings in progress below. Mixing colors is great fun!
