Second grade students are learning about endangered animals. We started this unit by learning about Jane Goodall and her work with chimpanzees. Students were Also studying Jane Goodall in their home room classes. We expanded the discussion to include endangered animals from around the world. Animals become endangered because of human interactions such as over hunting, poaching, and destruction of habitat. Students choose an endangered animal and did several practice sketches. They choose their best sketch to transfer onto styrofoam which we will be inked and printed in upcoming classes. We will examine the endangered animal series by the artist Andy Warhol for color inspiration. See their works in progress below.
