This week 3rd grade classes had a visit by fibers artist Sarah Nishura. She is a quilt artist that has been commissioned to create a community artwork for the newly remodeled Edgewater Library. She asked if she could come work with some students at Hayt, 3rd grade fit the bill because if all the recent excitement around our weavings!
Sarah taught students about embroidery used in different cultures. Students looked at examples on screen and got to touch some real life examples of embroidery.
She then taught students how to make stitches using a needle and thread, working on an embroidery hoop. She asked students to sew stitches to form an "X". These Xs will be sewn together as part of the larger community quilt that will hang in the Edgewater library. We can wait to get updates on her project and see the finished quilt hanging in the library!
